Kirsten Sutton, chief of staff for Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Kathleen Kraninger, has been named senior vice president and executive director of the American Bankers Association’s Card Policy Council.
The Card Policy Council handles legislative, regulatory and communications issues facing credit card issuers and payment card networks.
Sutton has served as chief of staff for both Kraninger and former Acting CFPB Director Mick Mulvaney. Before joining the CFPB, Sutton served as deputy staff director and staff director of the House Financial Services Committee when it was chaired by former Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas).
ABA officials said Sutton will join the staff on Oct. 5 and will, among other things, advocate on behalf of the association on credit card issues.
“Kirsten’s deep understanding of consumer financial services policy and advocacy will be an asset as our industry continues to evolve to meet customers’ changing needs,” said Jess Sharp, ABA’s executive vice president of advocacy and innovation. “Her experience managing within complex, member-driven organizations and implementing strategic initiatives will serve her well in this important role.”
A native of San Antonio, Sutton holds a B.A. in communications from Wheaton College.
