A senior Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Bill Huizenga of Michigan, said Wednesday that he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Huizenga made the announcement after being tested earlier in the day. He had been scheduled to appear at a Michigan rally with Vice President Mike Pence.
“While taking part in offsite testing protocols, I took a rapid test that came back positive for COVID-19. I am awaiting the results of a PCR test and I am self isolating until I have confirmed results,” Huizenga announced on his Twitter feed.
Huizenga is fifth in Republican seniority on the Financial Services Committee and is the ranking Republican on the panel’s Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets Subcommittee.
He is running for reelection and was scheduled to debate his Democratic opponent, Bryan Berghoef Wednesday evening. That debate has been cancelled.
